Wimax 16e Must Hold Local Industry

Indonesian Telecommunications Regulatory Body (BRTI) confirmed to the vendor network and WiMAX-based Internet providers in the 2.3 GHz band that would use technology 16e must accommodate local industry.

"The important thing is the process in Indonesia. If there is production (device) here, of course, will hold a local partner," said Nonot Harsono, BRTI member in the event of Telkomsel, at Planet Hollywood on Monday (08/08/2011).

Of the total range of 90 MHz band allocated for broadband wireless access (BWA) at 2.3 GHz, 30 MHz has been auctioned for Wimax 16d. While the remaining 60 MHz, Nonot said, will be auctioned for Wimax 16e after Lebaran later.

"We're still assessing how many percent of the obligation to local. Importantly, our principle to accommodate the technology-neutral met. Be it WiMAX 16d, 16e, and LTE," said Nonot.
