The era of the PC (personal computer) is predicted to be over. Not just anyone who says it. He was Mark Dean, IBM's Chief Technology Officer who is also one of the legends in the computer world.

Mark Dean is one of the engineers who had designed the legendary original IBM PC. According to Dean, post-PC era is underway at the moment and will come when the device is so antique technology.

IBM itself which this year turns 100 years berandil important in the development of the PC industry. But according to Dean, IBM had predicted would end the PC era when they sold its PC division to IBM in 2005.

"My primary computer is a tablet now. When I used to help design a PC, I do not think I will live longer to see the decline in popularity," Dean wrote in a blog from eWeek, Friday (08/12/2011).

Dean recognizes the PC will still be used a lot of people. But with signs of decline at this time, Dean predicts the fate of the PC will be the same as a typewriter or a tape. People are more interested in computer device that enables use anywhere such as a tablet or smartphone.

Statement regarding the expiration of the PC era has previously touted the various parties. As Apple CEO Steve Jobs recently said that the PC era will be replaced by smartphones and tablets.

However, some parties do not agree that the PC will lose its heyday. As Intel is underlined laptop sales still increasing. They have also just introduced the concept ultrabook, a thin and light laptop.

According to data from Gartner, PC sales are growing, but smaller numbers than expected because many consumers are choosing tablets and smartphones. In July 2011, growth in worldwide PC sales reached 2.3% of the estimate of 6.7%. Growth was also slower than the previous year.
